An Australian build-to-rent developer and operator.
Hommy Pty Ltd develops rental housing in Sydney and then operates it. Both halves matter. Most residential development in Australia ends at settlement — the builder hands over the keys and the building becomes somebody else's problem, usually a strata committee's. Build-to-rent removes that handover. We keep the building, so we carry the consequences of every decision made while designing it.
The leasing, the front desk, the maintenance team and the software all sit inside the same company. There is no managing agent in between, and no third party to be referred on to.
Our first building is The Herring in Macquarie Park — student accommodation opposite Macquarie University, opening 2027. Two more follow in Rockdale and Forest Lodge.

Hommy is part of Freecity Group, a Sydney property group working across purpose-built student accommodation, co-living and build-to-rent. Hommy is the entity that holds and operates its build-to-rent assets.
Residents lease through Freecity, which runs enquiries and applications across the whole group portfolio. Once someone moves in, they are dealing with Hommy — our staff, our building, our app.
We publish the app our residents use.
Every Hommy building runs on a resident app published by Hommy Pty Ltd. It carries the door key, the room controls, bookings for shared spaces, parcel notifications, maintenance requests and building announcements.
We build and publish it ourselves rather than renting someone else's. If a resident cannot get through their own front door at eleven at night, that is ours to answer for, and ours to fix.
The app is provided to residents of Hommy buildings. It is not a public marketplace and is not sold separately.
